Keywords: [Best Practice and Guidelines]
Name: Approaches to Decision-Making in Assessment for Assistive Technology
Start Date: 1st Jan 06
End Date: 1st Jan 09
Total Project Fund: Not disclosed
Background: There is a range of assistive technology (AT) to help older and disabled people with the activities of daily life and to maintain their independence. Choosing and using the most appropriate equipment involves assessments by a range of specialist therapists and is influenced by their knowledge of AT and the provision in their particular area.
Description: The purpose of this study is to analyse the 'how' of decision-making in the assessment and provision of AT across a range of AT centres in the UK. It will also seek to identify the factors seen as priorities in achieving a successful outcome.
Progress: The study is employing both qualitative and quantitative methodologies to interview occupational therapists, speech and language therapists and rehabilitation engineers in the context of discharge of people to their home following a traumatic brain injury.
Status: No update information available (Jun 2010)
