Name: Nestling Technology Initiative
Start Date: 1st Jan 07
End Date: 1st Dec 11
Total Project Fund: 11,620,329Euros
Background: Nestling Project in Dundalk, Ireland is exploring how 'ageing in place' can be applied in a new community-orientated demonstration project for older people. The project is a collaborative initiative between a wide range of public, private, voluntary, community and educational stakeholders in the area.
Description: The project is centred on a new housing scheme and care model for older people in Barrack Street. Researchers are developing a place-based evaluation framework to develop an understanding of how a combination of community cooperation, more integrated care service delivery, sustainable environmental change and technology for increased awareness, can improve individual and community outcomes. The new buildings include home automation and telecare/telehealth facilities.
Objective: The project aims to develop a Centre of Excellence for the promotion of community-orientated models for independent living and 'ageing in place'. It aims to provide environments that promote and sustain independence and well-being for older people through the fusion of innovative spatial technology and integrated community care-based approaches.
Progress: Nov 2010: The building work of the homes has been completed and tenants are planning to occupy the apartments.
