| Description: |
This is an exciting and challenging post which gives you the opportunity to lead the development of a new Adult Communication and Assistive Technology Service in East Kent. This service was initiated in late 2008 and the first multidisciplinary team established in 2009. This team consists of the Service Lead [Clinical Scientist], Speech and Language Therapist, Occupational Therapist, Clinical technologist and Administrator.
The team also has a budget for patient equipment so that assessments can be carried out knowing that there will not be the stress of identifying funding sources.
We are looking for a Clinical Scientist with experience in the area of Electronic Assistive Technology, ideally in working with Adults, to lead this new service.
You will be responsible for the day to day management of the service and will work with a Speech and Language Therapist, Occupational Therapist and Clinical Technologist. You will work as part of this team to assess clients for communication and assistive technology devices and provide ongoing support and training.
You will also lead the evaluation and introduction of emerging assistive technologies for use by our patients.
There are also strong links with the University of Kent and other institutions and there will be opportunity to be involved in ongoing projects and to initiate new research projects in Assistive Technology.
The Adult CAT Service is part of the Clinical and Rehabilitation Engineering Section of Medical Physics. This section comprises of three Clinical Scientists and six Clinical Technologists who provide a range of services in East Kent including Special Seating, Posture Management, Specialised Powered Chair Control and Electronic Assistive Technology.
One goal is to provide an integrated service in these areas to the patient.
We work closely with other health care clinicians in East Kent, especially Community Intermediate Care Teams, the East Kent Neuro Rehabilitation Unit and the Wheelchair Service. In this way the Adult CAT Service forms part of a wider multidisciplinary team.
The post requires that the candidate holds, or is eligible for State Registration, has a higher degree and some experience in research and development.
